Telesat Successfully Launches Nimiq 4 Broadcast Satellite

The latest satellite in Telesat’s fleet, Nimiq 4, was successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Friday, September 19th, 2008 at 5:48pm EDT (September 20 at 03:48 Baikonur time).

Nimiq 4 is a commercial communications satellite built by EADS Astrium. The satellite has two payloads for North American broadcast services, both of which are fully contracted to Bell TV (formerly ExpressVu). The larger platform has 32 Ku-band channels providing specialty television and foreign language programming. The second, smaller payload has 8 Ka-band channels for advanced services such as high definition television. The satellite will be located at 82º West longitude.
